Admissions Criteria


General Information

The mission of Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Education High School is to develop leaders of tomorrow by preparing all students to meet the high academic, technical, civic and workforce challenges of the twenty-first century. We believe that strong leadership throughout our united community of faculty members, students, parents and associates will move us towards the following goals: academic rigor, high standards for assessing students' performances and continual school improvement.

Students from all five boroughs of New York City are eligible to apply to Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Education High School under a specific CTE program. The program that students are accepted into will be the program that the student remains in for their entire high school career. No changes will be permitted.

Freshman (9th grade) applicants are selected through a competitive screening process based on 7th grade standardized test scores, final report card grades and attendance. Sophomore (10th grade) applicants are selected based on 8th grade standardized test scores, final report card grades and attendance.

Program Description: Prepares students for careers in one of the following areas: Graphic Arts or Web Design. Training in use of Adobe design software which allows students to pursue digital media, drawing, painting, digital photography or web design as an area of focus.

Program Description: Prepares students for careers in one of the following areas: CISCO Networking, focused on building and securing wired and wireless networks. Information Technology Specialist program focuses on building, maintaining, and troubleshooting computers, mobile devices and printers. Computer Forensics focuses on concepts of computers and transitions into security awareness, hacking, and mobile device and advanced computer forensics.

Program Description: The Computer Aided Design program prepares students to enter the field of architecture, construction and engineering (ACE). Students learn drafting fundamental and advanced features of AutoCAD and 3-D modeling using Revit Architecture software.

Program Description: Focuses on National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) in the approved areas of Automotive and Collision/Refinishing. Automotive: Auto Electric, Brakes, Engine Performance, Steering and Suspension. Collision/Refinishing: painting and refinishing, Non-Structural Damage Analysis, Repair Standards and Competencies.

Program Description: Prepares students for careers in the Medical Assisting and Biotechnology professions. Medical Assisting focuses on the administrative duties and clinical skills required in a health care center.
